Most mundane citizens of the world choose to discount these accounts as ravings
and superstition, and continue to live their lives blithely unaware of the dangerous
Supernatural forces that share the world in which they live.

They get up in the morning, go about their day, retire in the evening, and repeat
the cycle, never suspecting that the hobo they passed downtown was actually an apparition,
or that the neighbors’ cat was desperately hunting a wee gremlin seeking to wreak
havoc on its masters automobile. Never dreaming that once their forefathers huddled
in caves humming mantras to protect against the cold and cruel ravagings of extra-dimensional
creatures. That once their ancestors took great care not to arouse the interest
of the lords of the night, not even speaking the words given to name them for fear
that they might hear and, so hearing, be summoned.

They live their varied lives free from the mind-numbing terror wreaked by apparitions
and the restless dead. Free from the depredations of deranged cultists laboring
for occult favor. Unbelieving of the possibilities of psionic emanations or demonic
possessions. Utterly clueless of the potential for unwanted tragedy that overshadows
the lives of all living creatures native to this world and this dimension.

It is your job to ensure that this remains so. You must be prepared to face the
unfaceable, to coolly destroy the invincible evils, to look straight into the eyes
of the bogeymen of the night and say "Boo" so that the innocent citizens of the
world don’t have to live in fear as their predecessors were forced to. So that "Life,
Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" can be more than just a phrase. You serve
and protect your fellow people from the dangerous Supernatural forces that hide
away from the waking world. And, if you are doing your job correctly, nobody else
will ever know.
