"…and there, lying amidst the corpse-filth, we wounded watched as her black-winged
servants came to parade, and feast, upon the fallen. And throughout it all, whilst
we passed into the earth and our eyes were stolen from us, whilst the storm clouds
shed their heavy tears upon the trampled Irish heather, the skies laughed thunderously,
and with wild abandon…" - Extract taken from the incomplete fragments of an unknown
work, circa 438 AD.

Profile
|
Though exact abilities are unmeasured, the Morrigan is considered to be a Tier-1
entity based upon crypto-historical accounts.
|
It is unknown if the Morrigan is a corporeal entity or a primarily incorporeal entity
with the ability to manifest a corporeal form or the semblance of one. The Morrigan
is universally depicted as female, and has a strong association with ravens, and
related imagery.
|
Known History
|
Little is known of the (possibly immortal) entity that calls itself the Morrigan.
The mythological and crypto-historical accounts are found primarily among ancient
Celtic tales and legends (including the Gauls), but there are references found in
some Viking, Britanic, and possibly Roman accounts depending upon interpretation.
|
Excerpts from mythological and crypto-historical sources depict the Morrigan as being
dangerous, merciless, and often associated with death and carnage. However, some
accounts indicate that the Morrigan sometimes favors a particular person for unknown
reasons and lends them aid or favors.
|
Known Motivation
|
The Morrigan appears throughout crypto-history and mythology in a variety of disguises.
Whilst little is known of her motivations (which often appear to be conflicting),
The Morrigan is best described as a being that seems to seek out or cause strife.
She is held to be fickle, ambiguous, inconsistent and considered to be extremely
dangerous.
|
The prevailing analytical and scholarly opinion is that the Morrigan acts as would
an agent provocateur, with a primary interest of sowing chaos and strife. Some have
suggested she is nothing more than an exceptionally old and powerful Spirit of Woe
or Strife-wraith, while others have thought that such beings emanate from the same
or similar source or from the Morrigan herself. Many ancient accounts consider her
to be an actual goddess, and / or associated with the Sídhe.
|
However, speculation aside, the involvement of the Morrigan in any scenario should
be considered a major threat escalation.
|
Banshees
|
The Morrigan almost always intervenes when Banshees are Hunted, even if it is only
to exact vengeance upon the Hunters, post-Sanctioning.
|
The origin of the Bean Sídhe / bean shìth / Banshees is unclear and so we can only
speculate upon their relationship to the Morrigan, but some have suggested that
the Bean Sídhe are descendents of the Morrigan herself (cref="Demimondes").
This argument is supported by Irish folk tales, which suggest that certain of the
old Gaelic families exhibit more likelihood of Bansheeism than others.
|
Known Abilities
|
Crypto-history and mythological accounts record numerous instances of when the Morrigan
has used her powers. It is unclear if the information below represents the full
extent of her powers:
- At the battle of Brú na Bóinne, the Morrigan is said to have summoned a murder of
ravens that numbered in the hundreds of thousands. The ravens are said to have turned
the battle in the favour of Aodh Ó Corragáin.
- Shape-shifting, most notably: raven, wolf, cow, eel, young woman and old hag.
- Foretelling - or being an omen of - death and doom for great heroes and entire settlements.
- Inciting ardour, rage and violence between entire clans/families
- Performing a ritual which brings forth bounteous crops after several years of poor
harvest and starvation.
- Possible link to the mysterious dissapearance of an entire chapter of Hunters in
Northern France

Known Associates
|
As previously stated, there is a strong association between the Morrigan and ravens,
and it is suggested that Bean Sídhe / bean shìth / Banshees are descendents of the
Morrigan, though there does not appear to be any direct alliance or even awareness
of a relationship on the part of individual Banshees. Otherwise, the Morrigan appears
to be a lone operator pursuing an unknown personal agenda.
