Background: Hrani was born to his mother, Thora Steinunndotter while his father, Thórarin Torfisson was out on a Faring. Thorarin would be on one Faring or another or the majority of Hrani's young life. A giant of a man, Thórarinn was an accomplished Raevoring, and one of the most favored of the Laird's Huscarls. Hrani and his mother never wanted for money, and they lived in Hafendstadt amongst the other Huscarls. When Hrani was 19, Thorarrin, the leader of the Svartithur warband (Black Trolls), had been killed on Faring. Because of his father's standing, and Hrani's promising abilities, Hrani was trained by Huscarls in steading in his father's absence. Hrani was introduced to many weapons and fighting styles by his teachers. His favorite, however, was barehanded brawling. On his sixteenth birthday, he challenged one of the Huscarls to a wrestling match to vie for Thegnship. It was a close match. For a few minutes, it looked as if the older Huscarl was too wily and experienced to be beaten by a youngling. However, Hrani turned it around with a deft legsweep, and pressed his attack until his opponent was beaten. The man he had beaten, Thorbjorn the Fisher, was quite impressed with Hrani's skills, and invited him to join the Skeljamoli (seashell-shard) Warband (unofficially of course) on their next faring. Over the next few years, Hrani went on three farings in total. Now, 21, Hrani has come back to Hafenstadt to present himself to the Laird. Already, tales of his bravery and skill are being talked about amongst the Reavers, and Hrani hopes to become a Huscarl and for official oppointment to a warband. |

Campaign Use: A very large Clan, the Raevoring ply their piratical trade on the coast and shipping lines nearest the Vold. Masters of the mighty longboat, they raid up rivers and tributaries as well. Much like their northern cousins the Herodi, the Clan numbers many Thegns and few Thralls. Of the Thegns they are most likely to be Barbarian and Barbarian/Mariners. The Clan turns out the fewest number of Druids per capita but produces many Skalds. The ancestral home of the Raevoring is Hafenstadt, on the south side of where the Unien River flows into the ocean. |
