Rogate Turvoldsen
|
Herodi Clan
|
Rogate was slain in battle with the Kor-Daen under the mountain at Wundrak.
|
"Battle-Borne is but one of three
Ill-chosen he stands the last alive
Death alone his fear and geas
Ever for glory doth he contrive
In new Clan power he believes
But upon his brow doth War arrive"
|
|
Last living of triplets, and completely orphaned Rogate inwardly dreads being alone.
He likes to be accompanied by friends and companions at all times, and falls to
brooding when left without distractions.
|
Traveling to Caer Coinig after the death of his father to seek membership in the
Huscarl, he has found favor with the Laird Reserei, who remembered his father from
years past, and sort of took the lad under his wing. Pulled into this Druidic business
was discombobulating at first, but now Rogate realizes that he can serve his Clan
and his Laird best by taking charge of the Faring and making alliances with his
fellow Machtig that are also going on the journey. He is trying to be subtle about
it for he suspects that most of his new companions half-expect him to attempt to
dominate them, true to Herodi form.
|
Rogate is deadly skilled with a Longsword, but rather one dimensional otherwise;
without a Longsword in his hands he is at a significant disadvantage. He also is
not as well protected as the other principal Thegns in the group.

|
In practice, Rogate was a "glass cannon". The player had been counseled on the character's
shortcomings on many occassions and given ample opportunity to adjust the build
but was determined to stay the course and do it their way. End result, he could
dish damage, but not take it and was also ill-designed to deal with more than one
opponent at a time. His over-specialization with Longswords also cost him; in one
of the earliest of the Arrows fights his sword was broken by a canny opponent and
he had little recourse. He was struck down under Wundrak after impetuously launching
an all out attack on a Kor champion; the champion went down but his two buddies
thwacked the wide-open and lightly defended Rogate in direct response. And thus
fell Rogate.
