Fyrclian Beorgensen
|
Hengsting Clan
|
|
"Whitemane loses all to a momentary fault
altar-forced by a loving mother
Yearning for battle but to hearth did balk
Comfort and home meant for another
Master of horse yet reduced to walk
Seeking adventure on steed or by other"
|
|
The very definition of "tom-boy", Fyrclian Beorgensdottor even insists
on being called Beorgensen, which with her short hair and freckled face often causes
confusion. Child of a family of Hengstkampfwers, Fyrclian bullied her Thegn Uncle
into teaching her the basics of weaponcraft and attended Chigante's Thegn camps
every summer, honing her skill with a whip, light sword, and recurve horse bow with
every spare moment.
|
She is also an expert breeder and trainer of warhorses, rearing several herself
as she grew up on her father's steading. Her mother wished to find her a smart match
with a wealthy young lad and see her settled down to start a family, but Fyrclian
would have none of it. She lusted for adventure, not domesticity.
|
Her mother even went so far as to arrange a match without Fyrclian's knowledge,
but when meeting her betrothed for the first time Fyrclian flew into a fit which
escalated into an argument which then lead to her striking the man, who though wealthy
was still a Thrall, killing him with her whip.
|
Pestered by the lad's wealthy family the Reeve of Dunn Maredsne named Fyrclian's
horse as the weregild, as her only possession of worth. Fyrclian left her infuriated
mother's clutches for Dunn Reitstall, and sued to join the Huscarl. She was nominally
accepted for her skills, but got preempted for this Druidic Prophesy business first.
|
Fyrclian is a skilled fighter and equestrian, deadly with several weapons, but her
impetuousness could get her into more trouble than she can handle one day.
|
|
|
As the quest of the Nine Arrows progressed, Fyrclian matured into a deadly and very
capable warrioress, and her skill with bow, blade, and whip was felt in every battle,
set-to, and armed encounter the Arrows had from the journey to Zerlaaga to the final
battle with Warlord Gardek's retinue.
|
In the aftermath of the quest, after a prolonged affair with Saemund, Fyrclian returned
to her Clanhold and joined the Shutze, the Huscarl of the Hengsting Clan. She also
participated in the punitive wars against the Zedeshi. She became a role model to
women in her Clan, and further Fyrclian's deeds were well told in the Saga of the
Nine Arrows causing her to became an iconic heroine of the Machtig for generations
after her death.
|
Fyrclian never married or settled down, but she did have a daughter who grew up
to be a famed and powerful Obermancer. She never named the father publicly, but
those in the know believed it to be Chigante.
