Ayden Hraedaled
|
Faendradi Clan
|
|
"Ancient Archer sights an arrow
Warping the weft and pulling the weaves
Days of Aelfing yore sought in furlough
Past years of strength he sought to retrieve
Turning his people from their barrow
And prevent us all from a Clan to grieve"
|
|
Ayden is much older than he appears.....chronologically. He spent a few years among
his distant Aelfing kin learning to use the innate Magic abilities he inherited
from his Aelfing heritage. When he emerged with the Druid Targon from the Aelfing's
enchanted homeland he found that a century had passed in the meantime.
|
A child of the Faendradi Clan, Ayden is an excellent bowman and has several native
abilities stemming from three Aeldenaren (Old Blooded) Gifts he was born with. He
can change things into other things, deceive the senses, and is gifted with extrasensory
perceptions. Able to see a mile and turn invisible, make arrows from twigs, and
sense the unseen he is a capable member of the group.
|
However, his frailty, a preoccupation with his own importance, and an inability
to see the bigger picture due to his highly sheltered upbringing can make him a
liability in the wrong circumstances.
|
|
|
As the quest of the Nine Arrows progressed, Ayden rejoined the survivors in
the climactic battle in Zerlaaga with the sept of Tzoruul worshippers led by Bakuda
Rashuda, and involving a Prince of the Landrothi royal family.
|
After rejoining the group, Ayden soon proved his value as the band's scout and guide.
He also improved his mastery of his Aeldenaren Gifts and became very proficient.
His contributions to the quest were many and vital, and there were many tight spots
that might have proved to be the end for the Arrows if not for Ayden's quick thinking
and powerful abilities.
|
Though his fellow Arrows never developed much of a liking for the aloof Ayden, he
did make one true friend on his journey, the Kaer-Naese Totem Warrior
Ul-Nar.
|
If measured in terms of status, Ayden was the most successful of the Arrows as he
was the only one to rise to Lairdship. When the quest was finally completed Ayden
returned to his Clanhold, and eventually challenged Laird Neirin and won by dint
of his Aeldenaren Gifts though he allowed the ancient Laird to retire rather than
killing him. In the ensuing vote Ayden won by a landslide and ruled his people tolerably
well, opposing the Haelfinans' plans to assimilate the Faendradi and aiding the
Druids in their task.
