Psychological Complication: Compulsive Eating / Hoarding Disorder (Uncommon; Strong)
Notes:
Left to his own devices he'd almost always be munching on a bag of stolen corn nuts, jerky, or M&M's. If he found a shiny coin in the couch cushions and an old raisin, it's likely he'd eat the raisin and pocket the coin. If there was some kind of perceived immediate competition for said hidden treasure, it wouldn't be unheard of for him to eat both the coin and raisin.

Alert
Notes:
A character with this ability is very difficult to surprise. In any situation where they would normally be surprised due to being asleep or unaware of a foe due to some circumstance, the character gets to make a special Perception check to avoid being surprised even if their lack of awareness is caused by a previously failed Perception check. This special Alert Perception check cannot be reduced to less than a 10- roll regardless of penalties; however if it is failed the character suffers the normal outcome of being surprised with no further chances to avoid it.

Ebon is a sharp featured, sharp moving, and sharp spoken young man with a barely intact sense of what it is to be human.
|
Ebon remembers little of his past other than the fact that his mother was a Native American woman, and his father was a black eyed white man...but even that he isn't entirely sure about. For all practical purposes his life really began five short years ago.
Ebon survivied on his own for a couple of years as a nomadic scrounger, roaming from place to place and surviving off of whatever he could find or steal, barely a man, not quite an animal. Happy in his simple life but unaware of the oddity of his own existence and the need for secrecy, Ebon was seen shifting into raven form on several occasions. Though all the sightings were from a distance, this led to the rise of an urban myth of a "bird-man" across the American southwest and a number of lurid photoshopped images appearing in various sensationalist rags like the National Incredulist. A freelance Hunter named Reg Larsen followed up on the stories, sensing a possible pay day. Abiding well enough in his ignorant blissitude, Ebon was eking out his low-key pilfered existence in Albuquerque New Mexico when Reg tracked him down after a couple of weeks of investigation and pursuit. Reg called his find in to Section M, and then set up surveillance to identify what sort of supernatural Ebon might be and also of course waiting for Ebon to do something Sanctionable so that Reg could ultimately collect a bounty.
Fortunately for Ebon, Reg was widely known as a bottom feeder and had made some enemies with his slimy tactics and "winning" personality over the years among many in the Hunter sub-culture, and even within the supposedly impartial Section M itself. One of the analysts "assisting" Reg via phone in the ongoing attempt to identify what kind of supernatural Ebon is secretly dropped a line to a powerful Hermetic Wizard known as Melinda Evanaster. Though a Hunter herself, Melinda and her allies had a history of helping and protecting well-meaning Supernaturals from the depredations of over-zealous Hunters...and most importantly for Ebon she harbored a virulent dislike of Reg Larsen and his "methods". Melinda and her husband Theo got involved just soon enough to prevent Reg from getting Ebon sanctioned by exaggerating his Supernatural activities in reports in to Section M.
After chasing Reg off, Melinda cautiously approached Ebon, lest she frighten him into fleeing, and over the course of several days managed to establish a rapport with the strange, half-wild creature and eventually convinced Ebon to come with her and her burly husband to their home in Wyoming, where he briefly lived while Melinda and Theo did their best to domesticate the puckish, mischievous man-child, and educate him regarding the existence of the Accords and the penalties for not adhering to them. It wasn't easy, but with patience and repetition the Hendricks were able to shape Ebon into an almost functional member of society. After almost three years Ebon took his leave from the Hendricks home and resumed his nomadic lifestyle but with the benefit of some social skills, the knowledge that he must keep his nature hidden, and fully briefed on the dangers of supernatural existence. Melinda gave Ebon a cell phone, and he kept in touch and even checked in with the Hendricks from time to time when he was in the area. On several such visits Ebon met Melinda's son Miles, another wizard, and the two got on well enough. But recently Melinda was herself Sanctioned due to some complicated Accords stuff that Ebon frankly didn't understand entirely. but the gist of which seemed to be something about controlling a Daemon to stop a Daemonologist and getting blamed for the subsequent fallout. But Ebon does not care about such things; it is not possible for him to think ill of the woman who took him in and gave him a home when no one else seemed to care if he lived or died. Vengeance, or something like it, must be attained. Ebon has no actual practical ideas on how to do that exaclty, but luckily Melinda's son Miles is eager to achieve the same outcome. Ebon has decided to help the super-serious Miles in his quest to clear Melinda's name.
|
No one knows what motivates Ebon...including Ebon. He is an impish, mischeivious, unpredictable, and sometimes unreliable creature with an uncertain grip on mundane reality.
|
"How is it you survive? You can't fly, AND, you refuse to eat perfectly nutritious alley cats. You should give up and give me all of your peanuts."
|
Hit and run fighter, preferring not to fight fair if at all possible. He will attempt to make the most of his abilities and will choose his ground carefully when given the choice.
|
Ebon is a combination scout, and unconventional fighter with a number of unusual capabilities, ranging from flight to the ability to attack and kill apparitions. Ebon's time of being alone to fend for himself, with little intact memory of his family or past has caused him to become deeply enmeshed in his animalistic instincts. While posseed of a quick (though untutored) wit and highly adaptable, Ebon is more intuitive and non-linear than practically any normal human, which can make him seem rather random at time.
