Yullarians
Bipedal Rats with
graceful features, a slender build and quick
reflexes
Culturally enlightened,
peaceful and diplomatic, this race has taken
on the duties of the administration of the
GLC. They have a strong sense of social
duty to each other as well as members of
other races. They constantly intervene in
inter-racial politics on behalf of other
races in order to maintain the peace, which
is breaking down in the Trade Fringe due
to Tassk aggression and the Kataan inability
to compromise. This race excels at networking
and relationship building in all facets;
but not all Yullarians are honorable. They
are the Milky Way’s information brokers.
A good Yullarian contact is a must for any
mercenary outfit.
Yullarian society
is somewhat splintered based on economic
status. They have a democratic system of
government, but when their government grew
large and bureaucratically ‘fat,’ it increased
the tax burden on the middle class. Socialist
policies increased in frequency, and the
poorer masses began voting themselves economic
benefits. Thus the middle class has completely
eroded. The economically elite are called
Noble Yullarians, while the poor are known
as Rovers. However, Yullarians do not associate
economic status with social status, so the
Rovers are not looked down upon. In fact,
there is some pride in being of the Rover
class. It is not a caste system, but the
common Yullarian opinion of the other class
is that they have gotten the better of the
other. Between the two groups it is understood
that the Rovers basic needs will be looked
after in exchange for Rover labor. These
contracts require considerable negotiations.
The only instance
where Nobles really compete with Rovers
is the Moon race. Oriketa has five moons,
which mark the path of the race. Nobles
and Rovers each enter their spacecraft into
the race which has a million different rules
about what is legal. The objective is to
get the vehicles to a stock specification
where only the pilot’s personal skill matters.
After the course has been decided and the
vehicle is certified, there are no rules!
The Races are a huge event in Yullarian
life, and they hold one race every lunar
cycle (about 25 earth days). The Yullarians’
lightning fast reflexes, slender build,
and love of Moon Racing make them excellent
pilots.
