Suppression
Special
Suppression allows characters to temporarily shut down or reduce the step of supernatural effects and abilities (including Traits, Assets or Complications).
Effect: Suppression is primarily used as part of an action to add a 'Suppressed' Complication to a target, with the intent of temporarily stepping down or shutting down supernatural effects or abilities. If a 'Suppressed' Complication is attached to a single standalone target such as a supernatural Asset or Complication only that target is affected, but if a 'Suppressed' Complication is attached to a character, it applies to all supernatatural abilities contained by that character. Similarly, a 'Suppressed' Complication attached to a zone or a Scene affects all supernatural abilities present in the affected area. Supernatural effects and abilities that have a step equal to or higher than the 'Suppressed' Complication attached to them are stepped down, and supernatural effects and abilities with a step lower than the attached 'Suppressed' Complication are shut down. After applying a 'Suppressed' Complication to a target with an action a character with Suppression can attempt to step up the Complication over subsequent actions.
Common SFX: The Sigil SFX can be applied to allow a character to spend one (1) Plot Point to create an Asset attached to a zone that automatically attempts to suppress any supernatural ability used within or projected into or across that zone; the Asset is one step lower than the character's Suppression trait.
The Area of Effect SFX can be used to allow a character to apply multiple 'Suppressed' Complications per action.
Common Limits: As this trait can be very powerful in a setting with a lot of supernatural elements, a GM may require at least one Limit to be taken when allowing a character to take it.
A Limit can be applied to restrict a character's Suppression to only affect a specific kind of supernatural ability.
The Disenchanting Limit can be applied to restrict a character's Suppression to only target supernatural items.
The Dissipating Limit can be applied to cause all 'Suppressed' Complications created by a character to automatically step down at the end of each of the character's Panels.
The One And Done Limit can be applied to restrict a character from attempting to step up 'Suppressed' Complications they have created with subsequent actions.
