Effect: Swimming offers a direct mechanical benefit by increasing the number of zones a character can move during Action Scenes when movement through water or similar liquid mediums is relevant. It can also be used narratively to justify a character covering more distance than they would otherwise be able to during Transitions Scenes. Swimming can also sometimes be incorporated into actions as part of an attack, and perhaps on reaction rolls where a character's increased mobility in water might make them more difficult to hit.
At d4 a character can keep their head above water if calm and slowly 'dog paddle' with effort. During an Action Scene a character with this step of swimming can't move zones while swimming and risk drowning if attempting to take actions while swimming. Most characters will tire from Swimming within minutes, unless they also have Stamina.
At d6 characters can move one zone during a panel or take an action during a panel within their current zone without risk of drowning. Additionally, at this step a character will tire from Swimming flat out after about half an hour.
At d8 while swimming characters are able to move two zones during a panel or one zone and still have time to take an action. Additionally, at this step a character will tire from Swimming after an hour or so.
At d10 while swimming characters are able to move three zones during a panel or two zones and still have time to take an action. Additionally, at this step a character will tire from Swimming after half a day or so.
At d12 while swimming characters are able to move four zones during a panel or three zones and still have time to take an action. Additionally, at this step a character will effectively never tire from Swimming.
Common SFX: The Passenger SFX can be applied to allow a character to carry another character and not have their speed reduced (characters with sufficient Strength don't need this though).
Common Limits: The Winded Limit can be applied to cause a character to suffer d4 Body Stress each panel that they use Swimming.
