Luck allows a character to benefit from good fortune more often than is statistically likely. It also provides justification for all manner of unlikely narrative events such as fortuitous windfalls, offers convenient fodder for making sense out of unexpected outcomes, and can explain away the occasional deus ex machina.
Effect: Luck can be included in practically any action or reaction. Each step also provides an additional benefit, with a focus on slightly bending the normal rules of the game...particularly in regards to dice rolls. Unlike most other Ability traits, it is essential that a player always use a specific easily identified die as their Luck die when including it in a dice pool.
At d4 Luck and higher if your Luck die rolls a 1 you may change it to be a 3 instead; it does not count as an opportunity if you do this.
At d6 Luck when a dice pool that includes your Luck die is being assembled to make a reaction roll, you may spend a Plot Point before the dice are rolled to activate an opportunity even if the opposing action roll did not offer one.
At d8 Luck you may step down Luck when adding it to a dice pool; if you do an extra effect die can be kept.
At d10 Luck you may spend an effect die of d8 or higher to gain a Plot Point.
At d12 Luck you may spend a Plot Point to force any dice pool result that includes your Luck die to be entirely rerolled; if this is done the second result must be kept.
Common SFX: The Lucky You're My Friend SFX can be applied to allow a character to spend a Plot Point to roll their Luck die and add it to the dice pool result of an ally sharing the Scene with them.
The Bad Luck For You SFX can be applied to allow a character to step their Luck die down to d4 and add it to the dice pool of any character sharing a Scene with them.
The I Meant To Do That SFX allows a character to create a d6 Asset representing a temporary combat advantage usable by themselves or an ally, whenever they fail at an action or reaction that included their Luck die in its dice pool.
The Feeling the Odds SFX can be applied to allow a character to use their Luck trait as if it were Senses for the purposes of sensing or avoiding unexpected danger and also to attempt to gain an intuitive estimate of likelihood of a good or bad outcome in a given situation.
Common Limits: Luck normally helps a character all the time; the Activated Limit can be applied to represent Luck which doesn't work if the character is unconscious, stressed out, or suffering from Ego Trauma.
The Bad Karma Limit can be applied to represent a character who takes d4 Ego Stress every time they spend their last Plot Point.
Luck normally appears to be entirely coincidental, the Manifestation Limit can be applied to represent a form of Luck that is visible or detectable in some way.
