A comfortable looking middle aged priest with a friendly smile and an open heart, Jacob wears priestly attire "on and off duty", and lives his calling around the clock.
Jocob grew up in the "Our Sister of Infinite Mercies and Compassion" orphanage in Hudson City, and it was there that his eyes were opened to the esoteric world around him. The resident priest, Father McHugh, was an extrodinary man and felt that Jacob was a special child. He took Jacob under his wing and exposed him to the truth of the world as he performed exorcisms. Experiencing Father McHugh's struggle against daemonic influences first hand, Jacob's Faith was solidified in the miraculous display of the Lord's love and power for his flock.
Jacob grew up and went into the seminary where he excelled in scholarly duties, and his exceptional Faith and character were noticed. He rose in the Catholic Church and eventually received an incredible honor in being invited to give service in the Vatican Library itself!
It was during his time in the dusty and extensive archives that Jacob's Faith received it's first serious test. Cataloging and translating a new shipment of ancient Greek writings only recently uncovered in archaeological digs, Jacob found a daemonic tract under his unprepared gaze. The daemon bound to the tract, left trammeled and forgotten for millennia, hungrily attempted to devour Jacob's mind. For reasons he could never later explain, Jacob began to recite Nehemiah 2;. "Therefore thou deliveredst them unto the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies!"
And as he extoled the scripture, Jacob felt a great and comforting warmth overtake him in a rapture unlike any he had felt before. A steady bright light emanated from Jacobs crucifix, stunning the daemon and allowing Jacob to drop the tablet.
Reporting the incident to his superiors, Jacob and his tale were investigated by the secretive Ordo Dominus, who found the tablet to indeed be a daemonic tract, and attested that Jacob had demonstrated uncommon power of Faith, which surely saved his mind and perhaps his very soul. Jacob was himself subsequently recruited into the Ordo Dominus and in due time after education and preparation he became one of their investigators, working a number of cases in Europe with more senior members. Having proven himself capable, he was sent to the Archdiocese of the Campaign City to be the Ordo's resident investigator in the region, responsible for looking into any Supernatural occurances to determine if the Church should involve itself.
Since then, Jacob has continued his devotion to his Faith and to the Church. He works for the Vatican in cooperation with other authorities and anyone in need.
Father Jacob has a calling, and he pursues it with his fullest engagement. All else is secondary.
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Come close, and be shielded by the bastion of my Lord's love for all of his penitent sons and daughters."
Father Jacob tries to avoid violence when possible and relies mostly on his Faith to shield him and his companions from harm. Other than warding those around him from danger, he can also bind those that would try to do harm unto him or others.
Father Jacob has great power to provide aid to more aggressive Hunters, and has vast scholarly knowledge of languages and theology.
